Part 1
What are the strips trying to tell you?
Need help?
Hint 1
The wallpaper has several patterns running across it, and those same patterns also appear on the colored strips in different positions. Could the colors and matching patterns help you determine how each strip should be positioned?
Hint 2
Match each strip to its corresponding color, then slide it until the patterns on the strip line up perfectly with the patterns on the wallpaper. Once everything is aligned correctly, take another look at the strange black markings on the strips. Do they form anything?
Reveal answer
Each colored strip belongs in the matching colored position along the bottom of the wallpaper.
Slide each strip up or down until the patterns printed on it line up perfectly with the matching
patterns on the wall. When all eight strips are positioned correctly, the black markings across
the strips align to spell the word:
FLOOR
Part 2
What direction do you need to head?
Need help?
Hint 1
Examine the pathway cards closely. Do you notice the strange markings along the open ends of the trails on the sides of each card? There seem to be only two halves of each marking. Maybe matching them together could help you connect the paths.
Hint 2
Use the markings along the sides of the cards to determine which cards connect. Match the correct halves together to complete each symbol. Once every connection has been made, you should end up with four complete circuits of pathways. Take a look at the shape of each completed circuit. What could they be trying to tell you?
Reveal answer
Each pathway card has partial symbols along the open ends of its trails. Find the matching
half of each symbol on another card and connect those edges together. Continue matching the
symbols until all 20 cards have been connected correctly.
When assembled, the cards create four separate, complete pathway circuits. Looking at the
overall shape of each circuit reveals a letter. Reading the four letters together spells:
EAST
Part 3
What is the code to the gate to finally escape?
Need help?
Hint 1
The five gravestones contain a lot of strange information, but some of the markings appear more than once. Pay close attention to the circle, square, triangle, and diamond symbols. Information connected to the same symbol may work together.
Hint 2
Work out the value of each symbol by following its clues across the different gravestones. The separate gate-lock card shows the order the four symbols need to be entered: circle, square, triangle, diamond.
Reveal answer
The circle uses Margaret's lifespan. Margaret lived from 1824 to 1870,
which is 46 years. Edward says he walked the earth half as long, giving 23. The circled
second X on Margaret's grave tells you to use the second digit, giving 3.
The square uses the black bird shown on Eleanor's grave. Beatrice's grave
gives BLACK + BIRD = 8. Thomas's grave shows that the square equals that value minus IV:
8 - 4 = 4.
The triangle uses Margaret's riddle. Something with a face and hands but
that cannot see or touch is a clock. Edward's grave pairs the clock with VII, giving
7.
Finally, Thomas's grave shows that the diamond = triangle + circle - square.
7 + 3 - 4 = 6.
The gate card gives the order circle, square, triangle, diamond, producing the final code:
3476
