Day 8

What is the three-digit restart code?

Need a hint?
Hint 1

Each role has a different part of the system. The Technician has the instruction manual, while the Operator has the control panel and wiring compartment. Begin at Step 1 and follow the instructions in order. Read each condition carefully and use the information on the panels to determine which step comes next.

Hint 2

Some steps require more careful communication than others. The Technician should clearly describe exactly what information is needed, and the Operator should carefully report the values, colors, positions, and other details shown on the panels. Follow only the route created by those answers, and make sure to record any number or terminal shape the manual tells you to remember.

Reveal the answer

Begin at Step 1 and follow the instructions using the information shown on the control panel and wiring compartment:

  1. Step 1: The main pressure is exactly 10 PSI. Since the pressure is 10 PSI or less, continue to Step 3.
  2. Step 3: None of the three coolant valves have matching colors. The farthest-left valve is red, so continue to Step 5.
  3. Step 5: None of the wires in the wiring compartment have matching colors. The middle warning indicator is yellow, so find the yellow wire and continue to Step 6.
  4. Step 6: The first letter of yellow is Y. Since Y is in the second half of the alphabet, move one wire to the right of the yellow wire. This lands on the pink wire, which has an octagon terminal. Record the octagon and continue to Step 9.
  5. Step 9: Exactly one control switch matches the direction written beside it. The model number contains the vowel A, so take the control dial number, which is 13, and multiply it by 2. This gives you 26. Record 26 and continue to Step 14.
  6. Step 14: The manual shows that an octagon equals 5. Place this digit before the number recorded in Step 9. Placing 5 before 26 gives the final restart code.

The three-digit restart code is:

526
