Day 5

Once all six elves are placed correctly, what code is revealed by reading their numbers like a book? Read from left to right across the top row, then left to right across the bottom row.

Need a hint?
Hint 1

Your job is to place each elf at the workshop station where they belong. Use the statements on their cards to learn what they enjoy, what they dislike, and which elves they prefer to work beside.

Hint 2

Some clues may allow an elf to work in more than one location, while others limit an elf to one specific station. Start with the elves whose clues give them only one possible position. Then use those placements to determine where the remaining elves belong. For example, Holly belongs in the top-right position near the fireplace because they say, “I can’t stand being cold.”

Reveal the answer

Place the elves by matching their likes, dislikes, preferred jobs, and coworker relationships to the six workshop stations:

  • Top left: Noel. Noel loves watching the snow while working and says building toys is the best job in the workshop. This station lines up with a window and is used for building toys.
  • Top middle: Jingle. Jingle says building toys is their favorite part of the workshop. Jingle must also work beside Holly because both of their cards describe how much they enjoy working together.
  • Top right: Holly. Holly cannot stand being cold, so they work at the station closest to the fireplace. This also places them beside Jingle.
  • Bottom left: Tinsel. Tinsel does not do well in the heat, so this station places them farthest from the fireplace. It also allows them to see outside while they work.
  • Bottom middle: Peppermint. Peppermint says, “The heavier the job, the happier I am,” placing them at the station used for boxes and loading presents. Their card also says that they and Ginger make a great team.
  • Bottom right: Ginger. Ginger says Peppermint is their favorite coworker, placing them beside each other. Ginger also believes every present deserves a finishing touch, matching them to the gift-wrapping station.

Read the numbers on their cards from left to right across the top row, followed by left to right across the bottom row:

2, 6, 3, 1, 4, 9

The final code is:

263149
